Benign Prostate Enlargement - How is it treated?

BPH does not always require any treatment. Some men have an enlarged prostate but it doesn't necessarily cause any bother. You may decide with your specialist just to keep an eye on things at first.

If treatment is required, then this is usually tablets to start with. There are different sorts of tablets which work in different ways. Follow the link on the right for more information.

A prostate operation may be necessary for some patients. The main reasons for doing an operation are:

  • failure to get better with tablets
  • progression of symptoms
  • kidney problems due to BPH
  • bladder stones
